Got Questions? We've Got Answers.

When is a SWMS legally required in Australia?

A SWMS is legally required for any of the 18 High Risk Construction Work (HRCW) activities before work commences. Our tool includes a simple checklist to help you identify if your work falls into the HRCW category. See our full guide on the 18 HRCW activities here.

What's the difference between a SWMS and a JSA?

A SWMS is a high-level document legally required for HRCW that focuses on identifying hazards and controls. A Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is often more detailed, breaking down a specific task into steps. While a SWMS is a legal requirement for HRCW, a JSA is a great tool for other tasks.

Do my workers have to sign the SWMS?

Yes. You have a legal duty to consult with your workers during the creation of the SWMS. The signature is proof that this consultation has occurred. Our generator includes a digital sign-off feature to make this easy to capture on site.

What software do I need?

Nothing special! The Aussie Toolkit is a single HTML file that works on any modern web browser on Windows, Mac, and Android devices.

Please note: Due to platform restrictions by Apple, the tool does not currently function when opened directly on iPhones or iPads. It is fully compatible with Android phones and tablets.

Is this tool compliant in my state?

Yes. The very first step is selecting your state or territory. The tool then automatically adjusts key requirements, like the legal fall-from-height threshold, to ensure your final SWMS is compliant with your local WHS laws.
